I’m upset that I didn’t discover this album sooner. I had originally come across Summoner when they covered one of my favorite Black Sabbath songs (A National Acrobat) on a tribute album. There’s an urgency to their music, and as you’re unpacking what you’re hearing, it just sinks in deep and sticks with you. I’m really just trying to say that this album is fantastic, and deep. I’m really hoping Summoner puts out new music soon and would love to see them live as well. Matthew Rychlik
Quebec City based sextet with a penchant for powerful, doomy vibes. Formed over a mutual appreciation of Sabbath, Kyuss and Pentagram, 'First Trip' also displays a strong Alice In Chains influence especially on closing numbers 'Brazen Bull' and the brilliant orchestral-laden 'Crooked Lake'. For a debut offering, this a strong statement, 'Damn Judas' and 'Done and Gone' highlight the accomplished songwriting and instrumental ability of the band. Out in 2016, it must be time for the Second Trip. Logen Ninefingers
